Reflection

I have really enjoyed this first course at USF in working towards completing my Technology Endorsement. I have learned so much from my classmates as to how they use technology in their classrooms as well as how their districts use technology. There was so much from this class that I was able to implement right away with my students! In fact, this past week I used Peardeck for the first time ever and I loved it!

I learned a lot through the assignments as well as the readings every week. One of the biggest concepts for me, is how technology is functioning in my classroom and in our school. Digging deeper into the SMAR model really helped me gain a better understanding of where teachers need more training in our school. I found the article of, Understanding SMAR, helped me gain a better understand of what tier the majority of the students are working at. By reflecting on all of this,  I am excited to say that next week, I will be attending a meeting in my district to talk about the boot camp our staff and students go through at the start of the school year. I am hoping to bring a lot of what I learned in this class to the meeting. In addition to bringing up that the district needs to revisit the professional development they offer for our teachers to make sure they are offering a variety of opportunities for the staff to learn about new technology tools and how to effectively integrate them into their curriculum, the district also needs to work on establishing clear guidelines for what is acceptable use of their iPads and ensure that it communicated clearly to the entire staff and student body. I am bringing the article, 41 Tips, Tricks and Techniques for Your 1:1 Classroom to talk about at this meeting because there are a lot of these techniques that we need to get on the same page from classroom to classroom to offer that constant message to the students.

Overall, this class has expanded my knowledge of how to integrate technology effectively into my classroom and into my school. A huge thank you to all my classmates and teacher for the helpful feedback on the variety of assignments!

Artifact 2: Flipped Classroom

I loved creating a video to teach students how to use Easy Bib as an Add-On in Google Docs. This will be a valuable tool as I only see the students once a week during library. By creating videos like this and posting them to Google Classroom for students to reference as they need, it will keep the learning going beyond the walls of the library classroom.

Artifact 1: PBL Unit

I am so excited to implement the Project Based Learning Unit that I planned through this course next year with my students. Prior to this class, I had an idea of what PBL was but I didn't have a strong understand of how to effectively roll it out in my classroom. After reading a variety of articles on PBL, especially Teaching Strategies: Understanding By Design, I was able to create a unit that offers an authentic learning experience for the students.  Here is my PBL Unit: Designing a New Media Center for Hatch! Our district passed a referendum in 2017, and part of that referendum is updating all the libraries in the district to 21st Century Learning spaces. Since Hatch hasn't been remodeled yet, this will be a very meaningful experience for the students.
